Savita is aged about 45 years. Her family has seven members — her husband, two sons and three daughters. She has 0.30 acres of agricultural land. Her husband works as a daily wage labourer to meet ends.
When a woman farmers group was formed in the village, Savita became its member. She attended all the training organised, including the training on gender equality. She analysed her life situation and found that gender discrimination prevailing in her home was behind the current situation of the family.
Savita started discussions with her husband and father-in-law on gender equality. She prevailed that paddy would be planted in rows and a specific variety of paddy seed would be used. The result was that the crop yield was very good. Then she prevailed that wheat would be sown through super seeder machine. Wheat yield was again very good.
The pinnacle of gender awareness was that her husband and father-in-law became ready to send her daughter to Azamgarh city for higher education all alone! Her husband has vowed to be on her side in all future works.
